What else do we do?
There are a few other things that we're involved with as a wider Youth team. To find out more about any of them please contact us. Here's a list of most of them:
Youth Alpha
This is about young people having a chance to find out who Jesus really is and how Christianity and real-life actually fit together. You get to ask the tough questions and chat through issues in a place where your views are respected. It's also a great place to make new mates and drink some awesome smoothies.

Mentoring
We offer young people a relationship of trust, that will challenge, whilst providing support and encouragement for the natural decision-making processes of life. We'll often meet up for a coffee in town or after a church meeting.
Both schools and government recognise the value of mentoring young people, as do we as a team. All our mentors are CRB checked and have received in-house training, two of the team having completed a nationally recognised Mentoring training course. See Lizzie for more info...
Youth Band
The YB practice is on sunday afternoons, roughly once a fortnight and besides playing some awesome tunes (and creating hiphop/reggae/emocore remixes of 'Shine Jesus Shine'), we have a serious desire to serve God by developing our musical gifts. See Ed for more info...
Socials
These range from our annual Christmas Ball to events with Choices, such as the Jive evening 'Strictly Come Youth'. We also occasionally go to places like Megabowl, Megazone or the cinema. These generally happen on our regular youth night and involve a minimal charge to cover costs.
Urban Spirit
This is usually a bimonthly youth event held in Walsall, hosted by Walsall Community Church (another Salt & Light church that we have strong links with). It's a night of pizza, games, high-voltage praise & worship and a preach aimed at young people, equipping them for life at school on monday morning. It's also a great way to get to know others within the Salt & Light network of churches.
Residential
Our residentials are all about encountering God & having a great time doing it! We go away for a weekend, usually in the Autumn term. Previous venues have been Alton Castle and the Edale Centre. There's loads of games, loud heart-pumping worship, challenging talks and sessions on thought-provoking topics. These have been great times seeing young people take massive steps in their faith and growing in friendships & confidence. Definitely not to be missed!
Social Action
We believe Jesus calls us to go and make a difference and bless our communities. We've done plenty of different things including painting a children's park in Chaddesden, litter-picking in town, removing graffiti and a spot of gardening! We aim to do these during our regular meeting times.
If you know of any projects we could help out with in the local community, please let us know.
Fuel
Fuel exists to unite young people across Derby and is a city-wide joint church initiative that brings together different churches and denominations for a bimonthly youth service. Check out www.myspace.com/fuelderby for a flavour.
Mission Trips
There's nothing like stepping out of your comfort zone to see character and confidence grow! In recent years we've visited Uganda and Estonia to serve and assist in the work already taking place in these nations. If you'd like to get involved and come on a mission team, you must complete an application, attend training & planning events and also do a bit of fundraising!
