History

communitychurch has a short but eventful history! In the 1970’s there was a move of the Holy Spirit nationally that led to what is commonly known as the house church movement. At this time many churches that had not been open to the Holy Spirit were suddenly hit with a spiritual revival that led to groups of people, freshly filled with the Holy Spirit, starting up new churches in their homes. One of these groups began in Witney in Oxfordshire and was the beginnings of what is now Salt & Light Ministries.

In the early 1980’s Mark & Nesta Mumford were asked to move from Witney to lead a small gathering of people in Giltbrook, Notts. Before long they had developed links with other small groups in the city of Derby. Filled with vision they pulled all these groups together and called the newly formed grouping East Midlands Christian Fellowship (EMCF).

In 1987 the decision was made to locate EMCF centrally in Derby, whilst keeping an additional congregation in Eastwood near Giltbrook. In the following years various congregations were planted around the city as the church grew and grew. In 1997 the decision was taken to draw all these congregations together again and form one congregation. By now the church was of a significant size to require a large school hall.

communitychurch finally moved into its current home, the Riverside Centre, in the year 2000 and has continued to grow. EMCF has also grown during this time and there are now a number of other congregations around the East Midlands. More information can be found about EMCF on their website.
